There are a couple ways to etch on glass. One technique is by machine. You input your design and the machine does the etching for you. The other technique is by applying Amour Etch, an etching chemical. This approach is more hands-on to etching on glass. I take pride on the hands-on approach using etching chemical. 

The steps I take are as follows:

1-create design/image

2-cut out design/image in stencil

3-prepare/wash the piece of glass

4-apply etching cream and let sit 

5- rinse off the etching cream 

6- remove stencil and wash piece of glass

This process from start to finish usually takes between 3-4 hours if not longer depending on the size of the piece of glass or how detailed the image is.
